I used to use the Adwords management software called Clickable at the agency I used to work at. It allowed me to make mass edits and changes across multiple accounts and multiple networks.
It was pretty cool, but something it missed was the ability to really set rules based on certain criteria. (this may have changed it’s been a while since I’ve used it) For a recently launched campaign most of our bidding adjustments were pretty monotonous. I was just trying to get a high enough bid on my keywords to get my ads in a good enough position. Then I could collect enough data and improve on them.
Along comes automated rules in Adwords to save the day!
What are automated rules?
It the ability to set criteria to change bids, budgets or the status of keywords. This is a life saver when it comes to having the ability to automate your account.
Let’s say you don’t want your keywords to drop below position 4. Well you can set an automated rule in adwords and select to raise your bid by 10%, and can even enter a maximum CPC you don’t want you bid to exceed.
You can also schedule when you want Adwords to perform this automated sweep of your account.
Here’s just a glimpse of how you can use scheduling.
- Raise your bids to keep your keyword positions in the top 3 spots.
- Launch Ads that promote a sale or a special offer automatically. Just schedule when you want them to launch and it happens automatically. (of course you’re going to want to double check this.)
- Automatically raise your bids during peak hours and then drop them back down afterwards.
I literally just noticed this in my account today and can’t wait to begin using it and get my clients Ads and keywords working at peak performance without me. 🙂
